Problem
Safaricom PLC is the leading telecommunications provider in Kenya. Safaricom owns a large network of telecommunication masts across the country through which they offer mobile network and payment services. Especially in rural areas, Safaricom had limited insight into the energy usage of their masts and suffered from unreliability resulting in downtime.
Solution
Yetu Smart Grids is monitoring in real-time part of the Safaricom network of masts. In cases of unreliability, Yetu Smart Grids offers alternative energy sources to maximize uptime of the masts and reduce costs. As a result, two masts are now powered by a local hydropower station.
